Lately I’ve been reading a bunch of articles about why I lost my loyalty to work. There is a very simple checklist, and for the first time in my life I filled them all out. It’s really sad, because one of the main reasons was money or boredom in my previous experience. And here I am.
/ High turnover rate of management. If the management personnel at your company changes constantly, that’s a sure sign that something is wrong. Not only is there a loss of productivity because you have to repeatedly readjust to different bosses.
/ Interested only in your work and not your long-term worth. Loyalty is long-term. To be loyal, employees need to know that there is a future for them at the company. They pigeon-hole you into a specific role, and they don’t provide opportunities for professional development.
/ Not interested in your emotional well being. Your company should cultivate a culture which encourages respect and real relationships at all levels, among peers as well as between employees and C suites. If it doesn’t, this encourages a toxic work culture which makes life miserable.
/ Fail to be fair and transparent. In the employer-employee relationship, one party has more power: the employer. If your employer is not fair and transparent about your work, welfare, recognition, reward, and career options, they do not deserve your loyalty.
