Hey folks, a few thoughts for you as an employee.
Recent years is a time for executive communications in our jobs, due to covid, wars, rapid growth ect. It is under such conditions that you can check how mature leaders are in their communications. Here are my executive comms tips that I would like to hear from management (and no way to hear it)
Consistency. Communication should include background/current situation/consequences. The narrative should be structured to provide the team with a clear understanding of the previous steps and decision making process that led to the current situation as well as impact on business and team in the future.
Clarity. Facts, data and unambiguous explanations should be included in all executive comms to provide the team with key messages and awareness regarding the next steps.
Team spirit. Messages from the C-level should be communicated in a team-format as exec team made decisions and ideas. Individual messages from top managers should be consistent to the executive team communications to ensure for all employees the c-level image as a team.
Inspiration. Leaders should use comms to inspire the team. Enriching messages with humanity and openness ensure horizontal team development.
As a result of interaction with exec comms, the employee leaves with the following feelings: an employee has a clear understanding of a current situation as well as impact on the business, product and team in the future. The c-level communicates as a team of executives to ensure sufficient information for making employees feel safe with the current exec decisions and making their own decisions on the individual professional level; as well as inspire and praise the team.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? The case for small — to bring this idea to the c-level.
